MACKENZIE HALL
BROCKWEIR
Sunday 19th July, 12pm - 4.30pm
The jazz afternoon at the Brockweir Wye Valley Festival Jazz event attracts the largest numbers of people, particularly when the sun shines. Set in acres of open countryside, the Festival site lends itself to a relaxing afternoon for enjoying a family day out with a picnic and good music to tap your feet to.
Roger Marks' Armada Jazz Band
2009 sees the return of this popular band. Now celebrating 25 years in the business, Roger Marks' Armada Jazz Band has long been established at the forefront of Britain's traditional Jazz scene. Enjoying immense popularity around the jazz festivals, the band has also benefited from good CD airplay from the BBC in particular, and the magazine critics have generously acknowledged the band's performance standards with some stunning rave reviews in the jazz press.

The leader's philosophy is to use the musicians' fulsome talents to produce a unique style of traditional Jazz, free from constraint or taboo, and to perform it with great skill, verve and enthusiasm.
Leader Roger Marks (trombone), Graham Trevarton (trumpet and vocals), Ken Rennison (clarinet and saxophone), Eddie Edwards (banjo and guitar), Terry Turland (bass guitar) and Terry Lidiard (drums).
Hot Banana
Formed originally in 2000 by powerhouse pianist and vocalist Simon Banks and dazzling trombonist, vocalist and raconteur Kevin Grenfell, Hot Banana have already made a huge impact with their exuberant blend of jump jive and swing dance music. Hailed by ‘The Stage’ magazine as “one of Britain’s best ever party bands”, Hot Banana have enjoyed great success at dance clubs and venues throughout this country and are building a loyal following amongst the jivers of Northern Europe.

Reformed as a quartet in 2002, the band comprises Simon Banks on piano and vocals, Kevin Grenfell on trombone and vocals, Matt Palmer on reeds and vocals and the great Tony Peers on drums. The band’s music carries echoes of the great Louis Prima and Louis Jordan and they combine the energy of early rhythm and blues with an animated stage presence and infectious humour.
